Introduction to GS-441524: Course, Dosage Forms & Costs
GS-441524 is an experimental nucleoside analog antiviral drug. Verified by field trials led by Dr. Niels Pedersen from UC Davis, it is currently the only effective drug for treating feline infectious peritonitis.
The minimum treatment cycle is 12 weeks (84 consecutive days). Medication must be taken or injected every day at a fixed time. Before the end of the 12-week course, complete blood tests are required to confirm whether the treatment can be stopped.
2. Medication Forms & Selection Rules
GS-441524 has two mainstream forms: subcutaneous injection and oral tablets.
• Injectable form: Fast absorption, stable efficacy, suitable for severely ill cats with poor physical condition, intestinal inflammation, vomiting and diarrhea. It is recommended to start treatment with injections first until the cat’s condition stabilizes.
• Oral tablets: Easy to administer, but absorption is affected by gastrointestinal function. Cats with severe digestive tract diseases are not suitable for oral medication in the early stage. When the cat recovers and gastrointestinal symptoms disappear, you can switch from injection to oral tablets.
In terms of curative effect, standard-dosed oral drugs are equivalent to injections. Some cats adapt better to injections, while others recover faster after switching to oral tablets.
• Injectable GS-441524: Each vial costs 40 - 80 EUR, with the price varying by brand and drug concentration.
• Oral GS-441524: The total cost is 20%–40% higher than the injectable version.
